Meet our team

Melissa Burton - Studio Owner, Yoga and Fitness Instructor

Melissa has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. In that time she has accumulated many different certifications and experiences. Always learning is her philosophy. Opening and operating Journey To Be is her dream! As a Fitness Instructor Specialist, Personal Trainer Specialist, Certified Yoga Instructor and trainer of instructors, Melissa has many ways to help you reach your goals. Helping people find the right fit for them when it comes to classes is a passion of Melissa's. There truly is a class or exercise to suit every body. Sometimes it just takes a little trial and error to figure it out. Let's connect and find your perfect match! 

Jen Scriven - Fitness Instructor

Jen (she/her) has been in the fitness industry since 2021, but has been  working with bodies for 23 years as a Registered Massage Therapist.   Self proclaimed "anatomy nerd" Jen is always trying to learn about all  things to do with the human body. She does her best to apply that  knowledge to her role as a Fitness Instructor Specialist. Along with the  studio, Jen's focus is inclusivity in fitness. She strives to make  folks with bodies of all shapes, sizes, and abilities feel comfortable  in her classes. Her goal is to get you to sweat, be safe and have fun!!  

Kelly Howson - Yoga and Fitness Instructor

 Kelly has been a volunteer in in the fitness industry for 25 years, enjoying many different classes. Her class styles have ranged from Tae Bo, step aerobics , body pump, spin, TRX yoga flow and most recently Hatha Yoga. Kelly loves to learn about fitness and health, most recently adding canfitpro FIS (fitness instructor specialist), TRX yoga flow certification and the Journey To Be 200Hr Yoga Teacher Training to her repertoire. Kelly enjoys encouraging people along their fitness journey. She has worked in the community for over 36 years and enjoys meeting new people. Kelly enjoys many types of activities including hiking, swimming, standup paddle boarding and bike riding. She hopes to continue learning and growing in her fitness journey, and helping you do the same!    

Kelli Kingston - Yoga Instructor

 Kelli has been a dedicated yogi since her trying her first class in  2007.  She realized the completion of a life dream when she completed  her foundational 200-hour teacher training in 2022 with the fabulous  organization Frog Lotus Yoga.  Kelli is also currently enrolled in a  300-hour teacher training with Prana Shanti Yoga Center in Ottawa, to  complete her 500-hour teacher training.  The philosophy and practices of  yoga truly guide Kelli in all aspects of her life, and she loves to  share this passion with her students -- she believes yoga is truly a  non-denominational guide to "good living"!  Outside of her yoga passion,  Kelli spends most of her time as a registered nurse of 21 years,  currently finding much reward in community nursing within the home  setting, and she is also busy pursuing training in advanced foot care  nursing.  She is very much excited to be a part of Journey To Be, and  welcomes all students from varied backgrounds and with different levels  of ability to her classes! 

Margaret Elmhirst - Yoga Instructor

Margaret believes in lifelong learning and lifelong fitness.  Running  and aerobics have been her go to activities since the 80s.  In the last  few years, she has gravitated more to weightlifting and yoga.  In 2024,  almost on a whim, she obtained her Group Fitness Specialist  certification through Canfitpro with Melissa.  That encouraged her to  complete her 200 Hour Yoga training with Melissa at Journey to Be.  When  not exercising, she spends time with her grandchildren or gardening at  the cottage. 

Stacy Hannah - Yoga Apprentice

Stacy has always loved to move and believes it is the superpower that has kept her balanced, body and soul. Her love of dance drew her to a degree in choreography which yoga has been a partner to for almost 25 years. Her recent joy has been completing her 200 hour yoga teacher training with Melissa at Journey To Be Studio. As a new instructor, her focus is providing a safe, gentle space for folks to get as much out of their yoga practice as they can - with a smile and a deeeeep breath!
